CNN article regarding the right temporoparietal junction: Of course the title is pure nonsense - this is like saying - if I turn off part of your brain - you will think differently - Duh!!!! They used transcranial magnetic stimulation - bursts of elecromagnetic pulses at specific frequencies that disrupt - momentarily turn off - cellular function in discrete areas of the cortex. It is hardly "mind control " with a magnet as the title suggests!!!! Sure if I shut off function of certain parts of the cortex I lose certain functions - in this case it happens to be functions that allow you to see things from others perspective and understand how they would feel or you would feel if you were in their place - and without this feedback you not surprisingly make more ego-centric choices! But the location of the brain area that has primary control over these functions is highly significant, and useful for us to know about! The TP junction is Basically BA 40 (parietal) & BA 39 (parietal-temporal) together, and on the R-side has to do with understanding others feelings & how your actions might affect others, on the L-side it is more involved in understanding abstraction relationships like mathematics - which again involves complex understanding of relationships of one thing to another from different perspectives!
